< Back to News Home Podium Points At Mid-Ohio

Posted (06/21/2009) - LEXINGTON, Ohio (June 21, 2009) - It was another excellent points day for Randy and co-driver Christian Miller, Sunday as they finished second in the Grand-Am KONI Sports Car Challenge Street Tuner race at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.  On Saturday, Christian qualified the Compass360 Racing #74 Honda Civic Si in third position behind the two APR Motorsport Volkswagens.  In true championship form, he kept the car near the front while conserving the brakes.  Randy got into the car during a green flag pit stop and again moved to the front, battling with the Subaru and trying to chase down the APR Volkswagens whose power advantage makes them difficult to beat.  Towards the end, one of the VWs fell out of the race, giving Randy second place.

"This was another really great weekend for our Compass360 team.  Christian did a terrific job staying clean and conserving brakes which is a big concern for us.  After I got in, the Honda actually got faster during my stint when it usually gets slower.  I really enjoyed pushing the car to its limits.  It was in such good shape that I was able to drive for every ounce possible.  The brakes and handling were good and I pushed those Hoosiers hard."

"I had a good battle with Kristian Skavnes in the Subaru.  While trying to work around him, he made a little mistake and I got on his bumper but didn't do any damage.  I was able to get by but didn't have enough for the VW with their power advantage.  I feel really good about my stint today.  It was very satisfying, fulfilling and enjoyable for me.  Christian had his extended family at the track and it was nice to get a good finish for them.  Christian has extended his points lead and I've moved up to second place.  Again another top notch effort by the Compass360 team.  I would like to thank my personal sponsors Team Janica Racing, WeatherTech, Prairie Hills Motorsport Club, ChaseCam, and saferacer.com for their continued support."

Happy early birthday to Randy who turns 29 again this week!  Sunday's Mid-Ohio race will be televised on June 28 at 12:30 PM on SPEED.  The next race for the KONI Challenge will be July 18-19 at Barber Motorsports Park.  Randy's next World Challenge GT race will be at Watkins Glen on July 4 where Randy has been so dominant with this series in the past.
